Why Backups Matter

Parked Funds stores critical rental data including:

  • Bookings
  • Bond holds
  • Post-hire charges
  • Customer communication logs
  • Evidence uploads (infringements, damage reports)
  • Payment records

To ensure business continuity, automated backups run daily.

What Gets Backed Up

  • Application database (MariaDB) — All bookings, charges, customers, and configuration
  • Uploaded evidence files — Stored in S3 with multi-zone redundancy
  • Configuration snapshots — Organisation settings and preferences
  • Payment metadata — Transaction records and audit trails (never raw card details — Stripe handles that)

Important: Parked Funds does NOT store raw card numbers. All sensitive payment data is handled securely by Stripe.

Backup Frequency

  • Full database backup: Daily
  • Incremental backups: Every 6 hours
  • S3 file redundancy: Multi-zone storage
  • Backup retention: 30–90 days (configurable)

Where Backups Are Stored

  • Encrypted — All backups use encryption at rest
  • Stored in AWS S3 — Enterprise-grade object storage
  • Server-level snapshots available — For infrastructure-level recovery
  • Separate infrastructure from production — Backups are isolated from live systems

Disaster Recovery

  • Recovery point objective (RPO): Less than 24 hours
  • Recovery time objective (RTO): Under 4 hours
  • Manual restore capability — Available for critical recovery scenarios
  • Version rollback available — Restore to a specific point in time when needed
