Overview
Identity Verification lets you verify a customer's identity before they collect the vehicle. Staff send a verification link from the booking screen. The customer completes the process on their phone. Parked Funds tracks status automatically and shows a verified timestamp on the booking.
When to use it: Before pickup, especially for first-time renters or when you want to minimise manual ID checks at the counter. Sending the link 24–48 hours before pickup gives customers time to complete verification without rushing.
Payment gating: When enabled, identity verification can gate payment links—customers must verify before they can pay. This helps reduce fraud and ensures you have verified ID on file before releasing the vehicle.
Sending a Verification Request
Staff steps:
- Open the booking in Parked Funds
- Click "Send verification email"
- The customer receives an email with a secure link
- Status updates automatically when they complete (or if they don't)
Ensure the booking has the correct customer email. The verification link is sent to that address.
Customer Experience
The customer receives an email with a link. When they click it, they are taken to a secure Stripe Identity flow. They may be asked to:
- → Provide ID document details (e.g. driver's licence)
- → Take a photo of their ID or selfie (depending on Stripe's configuration)
- → Complete the flow on their phone or computer
The flow is mobile-friendly. Most customers complete it in a few minutes.
Statuses Explained
Parked Funds tracks these statuses:
- Requires input Customer has not started or has not completed the verification. They may need to open the link and finish the steps.
- Processing Customer has submitted. Stripe Identity is verifying. This usually takes a short time.
- Verified Verification complete. A timestamp is recorded on the booking.
- Canceled Verification was canceled or expired. You can resend if needed.
Troubleshooting
Wrong email: If the verification email was sent to the wrong address, update the booking email and send a new verification request. The old link will no longer be valid for that booking.
Customer stuck: If the customer says they can't complete verification, check that they're using the correct link from the email. Links can expire. Resend the verification email if needed.
Resend: You can send a new verification email from the booking. Use this if the customer didn't receive the first email, the link expired, or they had technical issues.
Last email sent: The booking shows when the last verification email was sent. Use this to avoid sending too many reminders.
Best Practice Timing
Send the verification link 24–48 hours before pickup. This gives customers time to complete it without feeling rushed. If they haven't verified by the day before pickup, send a reminder.
Avoid sending verification requests at the last minute. Customers may be travelling or busy. Early sends reduce counter delays and stress.
